03 Sep The role of Technologies in Virtual Production : Tupac Martir
Satore Studio’s Founder Tupac Martir’s recent interview with Simon Wyndham discusses the advancement of new technologies in Virtual Production. The recent production for Quite Brilliant amidst the pandemic, emphasises the potential of virtual sets at times when budgets might not be as large and running with a tight shooting schedule.
Satore Studio’s work within Virtual Production started long before the pandemic with approximately four months of R&D taking place in 2019. In the uncertain time brought about by the pandemic, Satore shifted the timeline to March in order to be able to flexibly adapt to the wider market demands. Satore’s vast portfolio in the field of virtual reality varies from the stitching done with Autopano, to the work done in Cosmos Within Us, with a vast portfolio of virtual reality Tupac Martir notes that elements of virtual reality can be easily translated into Virtual Production.
Whilst technologies such as tracking software have now advanced to the point they are now, as prior to that they had not been as commonly used within the creative industries. As Martir highlights in his interview with Wyndham, tracker technologies were near to non-existent four years ago, yet this is because the technologies at the time were not as advanced. However, the rapid advancement of computer technology and different software’s that were previously confined to the gaming industry are now being sought after by other creatives that are seeking the next best technology.
As technologies advance and become more reliable systems like Ncam (tracking system) become more robust and efficient when it comes to shooting projects. An interesting take away from the interview between Simon and Tupac Martir, is Martir’s pragmatic approach on how new technologies should be used. Martir’s emphasis on bringing humanity in technology in order to ensure that the humanistic story is not lost whilst trying to showcase technology.
