25 May Karoliina Helin : Women in Lighting
Satore Studio’s own architectural lighting designer Karoliina Helin has been featured in the Lighting Collective initiative labelled ‘Women in Lighting’. Women in Lighting aims to give a platform to the women working within the lighting industry.
Whilst women make up 50% of the lighting design profession. There is still a lack of women speaking at significant conferences, sitting on judging panels and serving on editorial boards. Although the lighting industry is considered a women-friendly environment, there’s still a notable difference between the roles women do.
Karoliina Helin portfolio consists of projects ranging from small residential substantial commercial buildings and theatres. The motivation behind her work is ensuring that light is seen and people can comment on how well it has been curated.
“Stop thinking about how others see you, your concern should be how you see yourself. As a lighting designer, you, literally, are the one who enables other people to see things. So do not sit quietly in the shadows, if you don’t want to.”
